Battery Recall for Delphi MyFi, Pioneer AirWare andTao XM2GO Satellite Radios

Dateline: 02/25/06

By Corey Deitz, About.com

Yesterday, I was surprised to receive a small package in the mail that said "Safety Replacement Part" on the outside.

I couldn't imagine what it was until I opened it to discover a new battery for my Delphi MyFi XM Radio portable receiver.

The note enclosed said the batteries in Delphi MyFi, Pioneer AirWare or Tao XM2GO satellite radios can malfunction, overheat, melt "or possibly present a burn hazard".

It went on to say I should immediately replace the old battery with the new one.

So, I did some checking around and found out a little more about the recall. Orbitcast.com says:

"New purchasers of XM2go units will have the new battery included within their package (so your Xmas presents are most likely OK). Subscribers are being sent a new battery free of charge in the coming weeks. There's really not any call for concern, this has been a fairly common thing happening in the CE world (Dell just recently did a big recall on their own batteries). Also note that this is a voluntary recall..."
