It's reported Karmazin and Viacom Chairman/CEO Sumner Redstone were at odds over various issues concerning the company.
Mel Karmazin stated, "After more than 20 years with the Company, for personal and professional reasons, I have decided to leave Viacom and pursue other challenges."
During his broadcast this morning, Stern spent much time discussing his relationship with Radio in general and what Mel Karmazin's departure might mean to his show in particular which Karmazin has always defended.
Karmazin will continue to consult Viacom for two months. The Board of Directors of Viacom announced today that Tom Freston and Leslie Moonves have been appointed Co-Presidents and Co-Chief Operating Officers, effective immediately.
