Classic Rock Finds New Radio On-Demand Home at ClassicRockCentral.com

Dateline: 12/22/06

By Corey Deitz, About.com Guide

ClassicRockCentral.com launched and plans to present original interviews with rock artists, network radio programs, and specials which originally aired on network radio during the past 25 years. The beta version of the website includes interviews with The Beatles, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and members of Pink Floyd.

The site offers a radio on-demand feature with streaming radio programs such as a 4-hour special celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s historic album Wish You Were Here which ran on network radio in 2000.

Additional programs include Psychedelic Psnack, an episodic program serving flashbacks of music and culture from 1965-1969, a popular syndicated radio series from the late 80's and early 90's. Psychadelic Psnack pulls from 1000 shows which aired on rock stations throughout the U.S.

Holiday programming includes a radio special that originally aired in 2001 entitled A John Lennon Christmas.

Classic Rock Central was co-founded by Denny Somach, Andy Zipfel and Anthony Buono.

Somach is a producer of rock ‘n roll programming for radio and television as well as an author and rock historian. Andy Zipfel is a marketing executive and Anthony Buono produces websites for various clients.

“Until now, most radio programs aired and evaporated,” said Buono, also Vice President of Operations. “Radio stations playing music over the air, via satellite, on the web, have great playlists of music, but they lack historical perspective, which is why this archive will be embraced by fans looking for more depth of information about their favorite rock artists. Classic rock means the music stands the test of time, so we’ll also feature more recent artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Lenny Kravitz and more.”

Over time the site will focus a great deal on user generated content and encompass features related to local music scenes in major cities. In addition, the site will provide original programming such as blogs, photo galleries and new audio and video programming.
