- Howard Stern to thousands of fans at a New York rally on Thursday, November 18, 2004.
Howard Stern was on hand today in front of thousands of his fans promoting SIRIUS Satellite Radio, his new home as of January, 2006.
With strippers surrounding him like bookends, the radio talker gave away a free SIRIUS boombox to the first 500 fans plus an additional 20,000 redeemable certificates for free radios.
There is a catch to the certificates: they must be redeemed by November 24, 2004 and the certificate holder must also sign up for one year of SIRIUS Satellite Radio service ($12.95-a-month.)
Stern recently signed a 5-year, $500,000 million dollars deal with SIRIUS and the company estimates it can recoup this investment with the addition of one million new subscribers. Of course, any new subscribers who take advantage of the free radio certificates handed out today would have to renew for another year in order to hear Stern when he debuts on SIRIUS.
In effect, today's promotion has the potential to snag thousands of new subscribers for a minimum of two years. There is one caveat: Stern is appearing on the David Letterman show tonight and may announce he has reached an agreement to be let out of his current contract early.
