Today the Federal Communications Commission announced it would not considering revising rules on indecent content broadcast by either XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

The F.C.C. declined a petition from Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters, Inc. to consider making such a change.

The Commission reiterated it "...has previously ruled that 'subscription-based services do not call into play the issue of indecency...and that '[c]onsistent with existing case law, the Commission does not impose regulations regarding indecency on services lacking the indiscriminate access to children that characterizes broadcasting.'"

In effect, the Commission said the petition from Mt. Wilson FM Broadcasters provided no reason for the Commissioners to revisit the issue.

This will no doubt be welcomed news by both Satellite Radio providers and may also spur on further sales and interest in both service by fans of Howard Stern and Opie & Anthony who will continue to play major roles in attracting listeners to both SIRIUS and XM Satellite Radio, respectively.
