By Corey Deitz, About.com

There is good news for those fans of Satellite Radio who have been yearning for one radio that receives both services. Whether you subscribe to both now or just want the option of switching from one to the other in the future without buying new equipment, Interoperable Technologies is working on your solution.

This company is a joint venture of XM and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. The company’s website says, "Our mission is to create interoperable satellite radio receiver technology that allows subscribers to access XM and SIRIUS satellite radio programming - together or individually."

Interoperable Technologies was created in 2003 "...to develop a unified standard for a common receiver platform. The common or dual-mode receiver platform enables consumers to purchase one radio capable of receiving the services of both XM and SIRIUS."

The company states at its website that in 2005, it "…substantially completed the design of a radio capable of receiving both services."
