Claims to Fame: Sharpton ran for President of the United States in 2004. He also spearheaded the social campaign to have Don Imus removed from his radio show after Imus' remarks about the Rutgers University Womens basketball team.
In 1987, Sharpton acted as spokesman for Tawana Brawley - a black woman who had accused some white men of rape. The charges later turned out to be false after a drawn out national media circus.
