Podcasting - Although the idea of using enclosures - or audio files - in RSS feeds was first proposed in 2000, the development of useable software for the masses to make Podcasting a reality didn’t come on the scene until 2004 in the form of iPodderX, developed by August Trometer and Ray Slakinski.

Significance: Podcasting is every man’s radio station. Unlike streaming audio, it requires almost no cost for servers or distribution and audio can be created on a shoestring. Podcasts are “pulled” through the Internet by subscribers, not “pushed” through the Internet by servers. Anyone with an audio message (or program) can offer a “radio show” to the world while concentrating on the content and not having to worry about the technicalities of distribution.
