Shoutcast - In 1998, Justin Frankel and Tom Pepper developed “Shoutcast”, the first freeware software for MP3 streaming.

Significance: Shoutcast provided amateur (and professional) broadcasters the ability to stream MP3 files as Internet Radio, thus adding to the changing paradigm for how “Radio” could be distributed. For practically nothing, anyone could turn their computer into an audio server to distribute audio worldwide.
