Radio Hall of Fame to Induct 2004 Roster of Radio Legends

Veteran public radio anchorman Bob Edwards, legendary Chicago disc jockey Larry Lujack, broadcasting executive L. Lowry Mays of Clear Channel Communications, Dick Purtan of WOMC/Detroit and the late Walter Winchell make up the Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2004. The announcement was made by RHOF President Bruce DuMont.

The induction ceremony will be nationally broadcast at 9:00 PM (CT) on Saturday, November 6th, from the Renaissance Chicago Hotel. Glenn Beck of Premiere Radio Networks, which will produce and distribute the broadcast, will host the one-hour special.

Bob Edwards is the former anchor of National Public Radio’s long-running Morning Edition, who returns to radio in October with a new program on XM Satellite Radio.

Larry Lujack is the edgy rock jock that shook up WLS/Chicago in the 1960’s and is now is heard on WRLL-AM.

L. Lowry Mays is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Clear Channel Communications who has changed the landscape the American radio industry.

Dick Purtan is the veteran morning voice on Oldies 104.3 WOMC/Detroit

Walter Winchell, (deceased), was one of radio's most influential commentators in the 1930s and 1940s, who pioneered celebrity journalism for CBS and eventually ABC.

All will be officially inducted on November 6th at a black-tie induction gala in Chicago.
