It was announced that beginning January 8, 2008, Bubba the Love Sponge would begin a new morning show on terrestrial radio stations WHPT/Tampa, Florida and on WFYV/Jacksonville. Both stations are owned by Cox Radio. Bubba the Love Sponge has not been heard on terrestrial radio in those markets for four years.
In February, 2004, Bubba The Love Sponge became one of the high-profile casualties of the post-Janet Jackson F.C.C. indecency crackdown. This action was in response to a fine of over $700,000 which Clear Channel incurred because of comments and content aired on his program. Clear Channel pulled the plug on his controversial and highly-rated syndicated show.
Under the wings of Howard Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge signed with SIRIUS in December, 2005 and went to work for Howard 101.
He recently re-signed with SIRIUS Satellite Radio and will continue to do his afternoon show on Howard 101, one of two stations Howard Stern programs for SIRIUS. That show airs from 3 - 7 p.m. ET.
Going back to Terrestrial Radio is in a sense, a redemption for Bubba the Love Sponge - or a revenge. Not sure which really.
