February 1 - When the WQHT (Hot 97) morning show played a crass parody song about the devastating Asian Tsunami, a backlash by listeners and the community resulted in apologies, suspensions, terminations, and check writing by parent company, Emmis Communications.
February 12 - In South Africa , Popular DJ Benny Kamati from Radio Energy, better known as BK to his listeners, committed suicide.
February 15 - What's stupider than annoying your Program Director? How about breaking into his home, live on the air. That's what Tim Shaw and producer Greg Pebble did. Both were employed by a British music station known as Kerrang! when they staged the mock burglary.
The station issued a statement that said the stunt was "an attempted on-air prank that went way far beyond the bounds of acceptable behavior." Oh, you mean like trashing the place, and then spray-painting obscenities on a wall? The one thing they forgot to spray paint was: "You're suspended indefinitely".
February 16 - The House of Representatives passed a modified version of the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act of 2005 (H.R. 310) which would increase the penalties to $500,000 per instance for indecent or profane transmissions.
February 24 - 100.3fm, WPLY, Y100, was taken off the air. After nearly 12 years at 100.3, Alternative Rock disappeared from the Philadelphia radio landscape.
