January 11 - Star & Buc Wild move to mornings at WWPR-FM, New York (Power 105.1) According to their website, these are the guys who "challenged and became the first morning show to beat Howard Stern's top ratings in over a decade" (in the New York City market).

January 16 - Jerry Springer announces he will be doing a 3 hour morning radio show based at WCKY-AM, Cincinnati.

January 20 - MSNBC's Joe Scarborough Gets Radio Show, replacing "The G. Gordon Liddy Show" on Westwood One.

January 23 - Legendary talk-show host, Johnny Carson, died at the age of 79. Carson, the most famous host of the long-running NBC program, "The Tonight Show", actually started his career in Radio. After leaving the University of Nebraska, he became a radio announcer and disc-jockey at KFAB, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1948. From 1950 to 1951, he worked as an announcer for WOW and WOW-TV in Omaha, Nebraska.

January 29 - New Jersey acting Governor Richard J Codey theatened Craig Carton from Jersey 101.5 (WKXW-FM) before going on the air. Carton had made insulting remarks about the Governor's wife, who had once suffered from post-partum depression.
