Now, listeners have the ability to create their own online radio stations with a click. Once the player is launched the player now shows a "Create Station" button. When a user clicks on it, a pop-up prompts you to type in an artist name and press the red play button.
"Featuring any of the more than 4.5 million artists in Last.fm’s library and nearly 12 million tracks, the player will provide listeners, for the first time, an infinite number of free streaming experiences across broadcast, online and personalized radio," states a news release.
Creating a station will not only pull appropriate content from the Last.fm library but takes advantage of Last.fm's "Scrobbling" technology which lets the audience track the music it plays across Last.fm, Radio.com, and on more than 600 music applications. This collected intelligence is distilled down into recommendations for songs and artists that power customized stations.
Radio.com also features hundreds of audio streams including the original AOL Radio portal and access to 130 traditional over-the-air CBS radio stations spread out across the country.
"Premium content from major market brands like KROQ and WXRT, for example, is in high demand and will continue to foster growth online for many years to come," says David Goodman, President, CBS Interactive Music Group. "But in a world where consumers expect more and more control over their audio consumption we’re pleased to provide them with the best of both worlds."
In addition to music there are specialty stations like "GLEE Radio", CNET Tech Radio, Live on Letterman Radio, and many more.
