The Government Leaves the Morality Business
Privatization would take the government out of the morality business for good. We would no longer need the F.C.C. to play nanny to indecent or obscene programming.
Let the market place decide.
If there is truly a market for a radio station that talks about explicit sexual topics 24-hours-a-day, then let the public have it. The station owner will either laugh all the way to the bank or cry in front of bankruptcy court.
Some may fear that indecent programming will run rampant throughout the land. But, I guarantee you: the station owner who provides that programming will yank it at the first sign of losing money. Privatization will probably do more to clean up Radio than the F.C.C. could ever hope for.
The market will take care of that.
I realize that there are many who will insist that someone or some entity other than the free market oversee indecent content on Radio but Id rather it not be the government. There is probably room for a debate on a V-chip for radios so parents can better make decisions for their children. In any event, this issue alone shouldnt be the reason that privatization is not taken seriously. The mores and values of our society as a whole continue to liberalize. It's time we faced that and had a realistic discussion.
Privatization Will Create More Radio Jobs
By allowing radio stations to be owned and operated by companies and individuals for profit without constraint of antiquated and unrealistic government regulation, the free marketplace will force stations to into a fight or flight scenario of competitiveness.
Those with the guts to compete will fight by hiring better talent promoting their product. Lesser competitors will eventually be forced to flee the marketplace and sell their property to another entrepreneur.
