Simplistic Podcasting With Gcast from GarageBand.com

(Return to: Podcasting For Dumb Dumbs)

For a little over a year, I’ve been putting together a weekday Podcast featuring a popular segment from my radio show.

Up until recently, I was actually using two services to make it happen: one that wrote the RSS code for me and another service which stored the actually .mp3 file for the Podcast. (I simply linked to the file from the code.)

For the most part it was fairly easy, although I was going through a few extra steps not having the Podcast elements all located in one place.

Why was I even doing it this way? Good question. The service providing the RSS code originally also allowed me to upload files so initially, it was all in one place. When that service changed policy on file uploads, I began placing my mp3 files on a different service's server.

I probably should have looked around then for a better solution but in the day-to-day business of my life, it was almost easier to continue on with the “devil I knew”, so to speak.

That’s all changed.

Simplistic Podcasting Solution

I recently looked at Gcast from GarageBand.com and was so impressed with the simplicity, I created a free account and moved our Podcast home over.

Gcast’s easy to follow setup allows the user to quickly setup a Podcast with title, description, graphic, keywords, and more.

With Gcast, you can upload a finished Podcast in the form of an .mp3 or better yet, you can record your Podcast right over your phone – toll free.

Additionally, if you’re looking for “Podcast safe” music to include in your program without the worry of copyright-infringement, GarageBand.com is integrated so you can choose from that service.

You can create music playlists for your shows from Gcast’s Playlist Manager. It allows you to change things up any way you wish.

That’s it. It’s amazingly straightforward and anyone can create their own Podcast for any reason.

When done, all you have to do is direct people from your website or in emails by providing the link to your own Gcast Podcast homepage.

Kudos to the Gcast developers for creating an online application which empowers everyone to have a voice in this new world of personal broadcasting.
