Walkouts at Radio New Zealand Shut Down Programs

Dateline: 07/31/05

Radio New Zealand continues to have sporadic walkouts over a pay raise issue.

Industrial action forced National Radio’s "Morning Report" program off the air this morning (8/01).

Members of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union and the Public Service Association walked off the job at 5am today and won’t return until 9am.

Staff at Radio New Zealand stopped work on Friday afternoon to consider their response to a breakdown in their pay talks.

This similar action meant that the "Checkpoint" program did not go to air.

The 180 workers are seeking a five per cent pay rise. The state broadcaster is offering three per cent.
