Personal: Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on April 10 1961, Nicky is married to Tina Ritchie. Graduated from Aberdeen University in history

Radio: He gained his first position in radio as a jingle writer for independent radio, Northsound Radio in Scotland. He went on to present his own breakfast show on the station, before moving to London's Capital Radio in 1986.

Nicky joined Radio 1 in October 1987, with a late night Saturday programme which was later extended, running each evening from Monday to Thursday.

Nicky launched the new drive time slot on Radio 1 in January 1994 and he took over presenting the afternoon show in January 1995.

Nicky began his show on BBC Radio 5 Live in October 1997. Campbell is also host of BBC Radio 1's show about faith and ethics, "The Big Questions".

Claim to Fame: In 2000 Campbell ran the London Marathon for land-mine victims' charity Concern, achieving a time of 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Awards: Nicky's Radio work has over the years garnered four Sony Awards and he was voted Variety Club of Great Britain Radio Personality of the Year in 1999.
