A Profile of Radio Personality Dr. Demento

Born: In Minnesota. His real name is Barret Hansen. He attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon where he was involved with the campus Radio station.

He had a show called "Musical Museum". He later received a Master's Degree from UCLA in the Origins of Rock 'N' Roll.

Beginnings: Dr. Demento began his career playing rare oldies on KPPC-FM in Pasadena, California - an "underground" Radio station of it's day. In 1972 he moved to KMET-FM, an album-rock station and his good ratings brought his syndicated show in 1974.

Claims to Fame: He discovered "Weird Al" Yankovic. He also provided the narration for Lobster Man From Mars, a 1988 movie.

Dr. Demento has released numerous compilations of music he regularly plays on his syndicated Radio show and also has a string of TV credits.
