Radio: Paul Bryant is now co-host on WKTU-FM/New York morning show. Prior to that he was co-and sidekick on "Wake Up With Whoopi", a syndicated morning show hosted by Whoopi Goldberg.
Bryant made a name for himself in New York City as the afternoon drive personality on WHTZ-FM, Z100, from 2 - 6 pm. He joined Z100 in 1996
He began his career in 1989 at age 18 when he begame a DJ on WGH-FM in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
From there he moved to KRBE-FM in Houston where he was on the air for 6 years. Bryant jumped from Houston to New York when he followed his Houston Program Director, Tom Poleman, to Z100.
What about the "Cubby" nickname? According to the Virginian Pilot newspaper:
Paul Bryant was just an 18-year-old senior at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach when he got his first job as a disc jockey, working for WGH-FM STAR 97 in Virginia Beach in 1989. He initially went by the nickname "Bear" after the legendary football coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, but because of his young age, he was quickly tagged "Cubby" instead.
