Radio: Dick Purtan began his broadcast career at WWOL, Buffalo, New York where he worked from 1958 - 1960 under the name "Guy King".
He moved on to WSAI-AM, Cincinnati in 1960 where he stayed for 5 years, working under the name "Paul Purtan".
In 1965, he was offered work at WKNR-AM, Detroit where he stayed until 1970, until CKLW wooed him over. He worked there until 1977.
Purtan moved to WXYZ-FM, Detroit in 1977 and remained until 1981.
In 1981, he went to work for WKQI-FM, Detroit and remained until 1996.
He did mornings on WOMC-FM, Detroit, Oldies 104.3 until retiring on March 26, 2010.
Awards:
- In 1986, he received the International Radio Festival "Best Air Personality".
- In 1993 he won The Marconi Awards' "Major Market Air Personality of the Year."
- In 1999 he received Radio & Records "Oldies Personality of the Year" Award.
- He's been Billboard Magazine's "Major Market Air Personality of the Year", twice.
- In 2000 Purtan was nominated for induction into the "Radio Hall of Fame" in Chicago, was selected as Radio & Records "Oldies Personality of the Year" and received their "2000 Industry Achievement Award".
