Myth: During the 1938 radio broadcast of War of the Worlds, people became so frightened at the prospect of Martians landing on earth that the ensuing panic caused stampedes, suicides, and traffic deaths.
Truth: It makes for a great story but in actuality these early reports were later proven to be false.
