- Radio stations are always giving away tickets and other prizes on-air. Most of us don’t have the time necessary to dedicate ourselves to dialing in for these giveaways. If you do, great. If you don’t, then consider getting freebies when stations go out on remote appearances. Besides the freebies, stations sometimes bring with high-priced concert tickets for drawings while doing an appearance. It is worth your time to enter these drawing because your odds are so much better than trying to be the right caller on-air. A remote broadcast will draw a much smaller universe of potential entries – increasing your odds tremendously.
- Stations sometimes do movie previews a day or two before a movie is going to debut. They will give away tickets on-air and at appearances. Some even offer the tickets for just stopping by the front desk. The preview tickets are usually good for two people and will get you into a film for free. The caveat: a disclaimer on these preview tickets will always warn you that it’s a first-come, first served event. If you have preview tickets make sure you are there early enough to be seated as the station may give out more tickets than seats available. Also: early arrival increases your chances of getting other freebies like promotional t-shirts and posters.
- Advertisers take note: you have better leverage in negotiating the best rate for your on-air commercials. Besides stations worrying about getting business on-the-books for the first quarter, with the economic turn down, you are in a better position to get more for your commitment. Use this advantage to negotiate a lower rate for your commercials or more commercials for your budget.
Traditional radio stations must be highly competitive for both listeners and advertisers, especially during a recessive economy. Us your clout and make the most of it by taking advantage of all that is offered.
