Corey: What moved you into podcasting?
James: I had just finished my first book, "Get out of Neutral" and was seeking ways in which to market and sell it. A good friend of mine came up with the idea that I should transmit a morning message where I share ideas of happiness, positivity and abundance. I did not have a platform so I started conducting two conference calls every morning, one for the east coast and one for the west coast. They were not well planned. I would forget to hit mute and literally I had one listener who you could hear was urinating.
You should have seen the e-mails that I would get, “Please hit mute, that man was urinating again.” Regardless, we grew really fast. Conference lines get expensive and once I grew to about 200 listeners, we had a find a way to reach everyone and I read an article about podcasting so we shifted over.
Corey: You have one of the top 25 podcasts in the world on iTunes. What did you do right?
James: First and foremost: valuable content is key as well as the fact that I'm a true expert. I bring authenticity to it but yet I know what I am talking about and really help people. I think the people who fail are leading a life and not truly living the life they really desire. Either they act like someone else, or don’t have true expertise and that will keep one from growing and creating an audience.
Corey: Why do you like podcasting?
James: It allows me to reach a massive amount of people in a platform they can take with them. It has changed my life and allowed me to grow a substantial business over the last three years.
Corey: How do you create your podcast? Did you create your own studio and if so, what does it consist of?
James: I do my podcast from my computer at home. I am a huge apple fan it makes things so much easier. I heard once that doing a podcast on a PC is like taking a shower in the sink! Apples get the job done in an efficient manner.
My studio consists of a Mac Book Pro and a Sennheiser microphone which works amazing :)
Corey: What is the most surprising thing podcasting has done for you?
James: Each and every day I am in awe and truly grateful. I receive feedback from the people who have listened to my 900 podcasts all over town. They approach me in the bookstore and know more about me then I do myself. I receive countless emails daily of thanks and gratitude. My fee is double digits and I have people call me and ask me to speak. I have asked do you need to see my speaker kit, the answer is usually no. It is amazing! They are ready for me to simply show up!
