Clear Channel Radio Now Offering HD Programming on Over 200 Stations

Dateline: 11/21/05

By , About.com Guide

Today Clear Channel Radio announced that 200 of its radio stations will be airing HD digital radio broadcasts by the end of November. At this rate the company says it is on track to air HD digital radio broadcasts on 95% of its stations in the top 100 markets by the end of 2007.

Jeff Littlejohn, Executive Vice President of Distribution Development, Clear Channel Radio, said, "Our momentum in rolling out HD digital radio, which is ahead of schedule, is an indicator of the company’s enthusiasm about the higher-quality listening experience, strengthened by the data services and multicasted programming available only through HD digital radio."

HD digital radio upgrades AM and FM radio stations by adding a digital signal to the existing analog signal. The result allows AM radio to sound like FM, and FM radio to sound CD-quality.

To enjoy these benefits plus additional programs that can be broadcast through a single station via multicasting, the listener must purchase a HD radio receiver.
