RAJAR ((Radio Joint Audience Research) has release it's second quarter of listening measurement for UK state and commercial radio.

Chris Evans, one of Britain's most popular radio personalities "...lost just over 1 million listeners in the second quarter of 2010, according to the latest audience data," according to digitalspy.com.

That means if the BBC Radio 2 personality doesn't manage to hold on to the other 8.1 million he still has, he might be in trouble (place a smiling emoticon here.)

Evans replaced longtime BBC 2 presenter Terry Wogan earlier this year. Since then, listenership has drop from Wogan's 9.53 million to the latest figures covering the quarterly measurement covering April, May, and June.

RAJAR puts BBC Radio 2, the country's most listened to station, at the number one rank among all BBC Network Radio for weekly reach, reaching 27% of the population 15 years or older (with a 15.9 share of total audience).

BBC Radio 1 (New Music) reached 23% of that same audience (9.3 share) and BBC Radio 4 (talk/variety) reached 20% (with a 12.4 share). Radio 4's share is higher because though less people are listening, they are listening for longer periods of time.)

Among commercial radio networks and stations, Heart Network (UK) bested the rest with a 5.8 share followed by Classic FM with a 3.8 share, again based on adults 15+.

Other interesting facts reported by RAJAR:

  1. Digital radio listening share up 17% year on year
  2. Digital radio listening weekly reach up 11% year on year
  3. DAB ownership up 7.6% year on year to over 18 million adults

RAJAR reported: "Radio listening in the UK has broken the previous record, set in Q1, 2010, to reach an all time high of 46.8 million adults, or 90.6% of the UK population (15+), tuning in to their favourite radio stations each week."
