On the surface, this may sound like just another publicity stunt - and on the surface, it is.
But, when you analyze it further, its terribly clever.
No doubt, Mr. Sponge continues to look for a new radio venue for his highly popular radio show. But, in the interim, by running for sheriff he has found a great way to not only keep his name out there but to also stick it to his detractors who were probably patting themselves on their backs over his apparent demise.
Should he actually win, there is probably no law that says he couldnt continue to do a radio show while sheriff. Of course, when it came re-election time, he would have to come off the air - at least temporarily - to avoid an equal time problem. You see, when it comes to politics, if one station sells or gives airtime to one candidate, it must sell or give time to any other bona fide candidate (a rule only a politician could think of). But, that eventuality is still quite a while away.
Now, imagine the possibilities if Sheriff Bubba becomes a reality:
He could set up radar traps along all the roads that pass by any Clear Channel radio stations in the area.
The Sheriff is often given the task of process serving and he could assume the honor of physically delivering any notice of lawsuits filed against his old employer, Clear Channel.
Yes, Sheriff Bubba could have a grand old time doing the peoples work. And he might even have to arrest a person or two for public indecency.
The irony is overwhelming.
