The Man Who Tattooed His Forehead with a Radio Station Logo - 9/28/10

It was old news to anyone who lives in Davenport, Iowa but probably not to you. This was the story of David Jonathan Winkelman, the man who tattooed his forehead with a radio station's logo. The story of his forehead tattoo popped up after 10 years because Winkleman was arrested on a misdemeanor and was processed by the law - including a mug shot.

Significance: I know radio people have big egos but this is the most prominent case of radio going to someone's head.

CNN Fires Rick Sanchez Over SIRIUS XM Radio Interview - 10/2/10

Rick Sanchez, an afternoon anchor on CNN, was fired by the network on Friday following an interview he gave on SIRIUS XM Radio's Stand Up! With Pete Dominick in which Sanchez labeled Comedy Central's Jon Stewart a "bigot" and "essentially prejudicial." He also suggested that a lot of other networks were controlled by Jewish people like Stewart.

Significance: SIRIUS XM boosts its "street cred" as a "playa" as the media continues to eat its own tail in a bizarre game of "speak and freak".

Dr. Laura Moves to Satellite Radio - 11/26/10

The Associated Press jumped the gun on this story and released it on a Friday: "Sirius XM Radio said Monday it has a multiyear deal with Schlessinger to bring her 'Dr. Laura' advice program to satellite radio in January. Specific terms were not revealed." It's highly unlikely the AP held the story all week. It was probably originally embargoed until the upcoming Monday. Dr. Laura later said: "Coming to SIRIUS XM is an amazingly freeing transition from terrestrial radio for me."

Significance: Dr. Laura is the first recipient of the newly initiated "Most Likely to Emulate Brett Favre" Award.

Howard Stern Signs on with SIRIUS XM for 5 More Years - 12/09/10

"On my first day in satellite radio SIRIUS had approximately 600,000 subscribers. Today, the two companies have 20 million; and, in my view, we have just scratched the surface of how many people will get on board," said Howard Stern through a press release.

Significance: After the lack of restrictions of satellite radio, how could Stern ever go back to traditional radio? He doesn't need the money - but he's addicted to the creative freedom.
