ThePowerPig.com Continues To Build Tribute To Legendary WFLZ-FM, Tampa

Dateline: 10/25/04

By Corey Deitz, About.com

In the mid-1980s, Q105 (WRBQ-FM) was the dominant radio station in Tampa, Florida. Its morning show, the "Q Morning Zoo" with Scott Shannon and Cleveland Wheeler ruled Tampa Bay for several years, remaining untouchable by their competition.

Then in the fall of 1989, "The Power Pig" came on the scene, at 93.3 and successfully challenged and intimidated Q105. In less than 3 months, the "Pig" brought down the long dominate Q105.

Now “ThePowerPig.com – Version 3.0" has been launched. The website is an online tribute to Top 40 legend WFLZ, Tampa.

”The goal was preserve the extremely outrageous and entertaining history of The Power Pig - 93.3FLZ at a level it really deserved and to hopefully encourage others to build sites like it,” says owner, webmaster and former WFLZ air personality Brian Holmes. “With the way our industry is changing so fast, I’d like to hope we will at least have sites like this to remember today’s radio by, just in the same way we all enjoy sites like Reelradio.com.”

The new site design is faster, includes many new pictures and new audio cuts plus a section of materials from then-Power Pig competitor Q105, Tampa.

The upgrade of ThePowerPig.com also includes a special 15th Anniversary Tribute Section saluting the original staff which in just 71 days brought down Tampa's legendary Q105.
