Every Radio Personality or DJ has some dirty little secrets they keep in a closet. Some skeletons, if you will. Let me pull aside the curtain and reveal some of the lingo that has evolved and some terms I have coined to describe certain types of repeating behavior on the part of listeners whom Radio people come in contact with all the time.

Remote Stalker - These people have no lives. When a radio station or DJ makes an appearance or does a “remote” broadcast, they will come out and lurk. They will usually introduce themselves to the DJ, chat a little bit and then just hang around for the rest of the event. Close to the DJ. Staring. It's unnerving and weird for the radio personality. Most people come, say hello, grab a keychain or something and split. Not these folks. They really want to go home with you.

WannaBeen - This is a person who at one time did a little radio, usually a stint at a college radio station for a semester. They are convinced this qualifies them to be able to announce that they “were in radio for a while”. It's usually the first thing they'll tell you when they meet you. They try and convince you they are completely up on the latest. Before they leave, they ask if there are any openings because they've been thinking about getting back into the biz.

Contest Pig - This is a listener who only listens to play contests. He/she has no loyalty to any one radio station and will avidly switch from one-to-another for the sole purpose of playing and hopefully winning any game and any contest. They have been known to employ sneaky methods like speed dialing, several different phone lines and even masking their identity to win several contests where rules state one can only win once every 30 days.
