The New York Post is reporting that "Opie and Anthony" are still reaping the monetary benefits of their $30 million dollar contract with Infinity Broadcasting. Apparently, the lawyers for Infinity can't quite figure out yet the best way to back out of it, legally. Even so, as the boys sit on the sidelines drinking pina coladas and emailing their attorney, fans on the Internet continue to not only discuss their favorite radio show, but listen to it as well...well, at least, archived show. Len Carolan is the webmaster of OpieAnthony.net and I recently questioned him about this.
Corey: First, how would you characterizes yourself?
Len: Well, I’m a nobody. Just another O&A fan that is in the computer field, which is how I found the #opieanthony chat room. as ”.. Just another O&A fan that is in the computer field, which is how I found the #opieanthony chat room. From there I met a whole bunch of O&A listeners and we eventually started a website. I own the domain and have it hosted, but it wouldn’t be anywhere without the help of some great guys from the chat room. I recommend anyone reading this who is an O&A fan to check out our chat room on IRC. We’re even amazed how it’s grown… with people logging on from many of the previously syndicated cities, and even some from other countries. It’s great to share O&A bits, let your feelings be known on them getting fired, or even just talk about how your day sucks, sports, or whatever else is on your mind.
Corey: What does OpieAnthony.net provide for fans? Audio? Pics? Discussion, etc....
Len: What OpieAnthony.net provides to fans is growing everyday. It started off as just a simple website for our IRC channel on dalnet, #opieanthony. It simply had some stats, and a few links. As of today we’ve introduced a message board, fans pictures, tutorials on how to a) stream O&A b) get on our IRC channel c) record O&A shows, and soon we’ll be adding an original Articles section written by numerous fans, and a download section where users will be able to download original soundboards, winamp skins, etc.
Corey: Do you think O&A are untouchable right now? Or, do you think they'll soon be back on the air?
Len: Personally, I think O&A might be a little untouchable right now, but you can’t blame the pursuers. They did something stupid, will “serve their time” and soon enough one day we’ll all hear the Rage Against The Machine instrumental which is their intro music. Everyone knows our country has an uncanny way of forgetting about things really quickly, so once the dust settles, someone will snatch them up quickly. Hopefully it will be sooner than later, and for Ant’s sake, still in afternoon drive time.
