Dateline: 04/26/03

But, XM is counting on the fact that more and more people are using their PCs for recreational audio and the company is positioning this new option as an alternative to streaming Internet Radio.

XM is quick to point out XM PCR delivers all 100 of their channels without delay, avoiding Internet congestion and buffering delays often associated with online streaming audio.

For a suggested retail price of $69.95, you receive a small piece of USB-compatible hardware that hooks up to your PC along with the software to control it.

The software included in this package lets the user view what's playing across all 100 channels, customize channel lists to show only your favorites, and even add artists on your "Favorite Artists" list so you can be alerted when they show up on another channel. The software also has a built-in signal strength meter to allow for best positioning of your XM antenna.

Requirements:

  • Pentium®-class processor
  • Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
  • CD-ROM drive for software installation
  • Sound card or powered speakers
  • Available USB port
    (XM Radio subscription is $9.99/mo.)

With the recent introduction of their Delphi XM SkyFi Radio - which made their content portable - and now with this new option for PC audiophiles, XM Satellite Radio's vision of unencumbered, universal broadcasting continues to flourish.
