Radio hitmaker, songwriter and producer Phil Spector, was arrested today as the primary suspect in a homicide. Police were called to his home in Los Angeles at about 5 A.M. this morning where an unidentified woman was found dead of a gunshot wound. Spector, 62, was taken into custody and later posted bond of $1,000,000 dollars. Spector first had recording success with a group known as the "Teddy Bears". Their song, "To Know Him Is To Love Him", became a Radio hit. It is reported that Phil Spector used the inscription off his father's grave, "To Know Him Was To Love Him", as the basis of the song. Spector came to prominence in the 1960s during a run of Radio hits by girl groups like the "Crystals" and the "Ronettes". Spector was a pioneer in multitracking or overdubbing and came to be known for his "Wall of Sound" style which created a full musical sound previously unheard in Pop records. Some of the hits he was responsible for include: "Da Doo Ron Ron" by the >Crystals, the Ronettes' "Be My Baby" and "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by Darlene Love. He later went on to produce such rock luminaries as the Beatles, John Lennon, George Harrison, Tina Turner, the Righteous Brothers and the Ramones. In 1989, Spector was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
