Profiles of Popular and Extraordinary Radio Personalities

Ron and Fez

Ron Bennington and Fez "Marie" Whatley are a talk radio duo who host "The Ron and Fez Show."

Ron Bennington, originally from Philadelphia, PA, is a popular standup comic and once the owner of a comedy club.

In the early 1990s, Bennington co-hosted the hugely successful Florida-based talk program "The Ron and Ron Show" with Ron Diaz. The duo earned huge ratings, bringing Bennington's sardonic, cigar-chomping persona to thousands of listeners.

Fez Whatley, a young and enthusiastic comedian, became a frequent guest. Diaz eventually left the show, leaving Bennington and Whatley.

When the radio station WNEW-FM in New York took on an all-talk format in 1999, Ron and Fez were signed to host an overnight talk show named "Ron and Fez Dot Com." The original premise of the show was for the two comedians to discuss Web sites into the wee hours of the morning.

During this period, several memorable characters joined their on-air staff, including their mostly-silent producer Hawk, Queen of Filth Tasteless Ginny, the call-in prankster Joe Poo, and the ever-reliable and gregarious Heckler (who has since become known as the "Blowhard").

The show's Web-based premise quickly led to the founding of several Web sites devoted to the show, including RFBabies.com (once a haven for the show's cadre of young female fans), and RonFez.net. Though the "Dot Com" was dropped from the show's title soon after their debut, Ron and Fez have since inspired an enormous cult following on the Internet.

Ron and Fez remained at WNEW until the station's format "flipped" in January 2003. Ron and Fez were transferred to another Infinity owned station, WJFK-FM in Washington, DC where they worked until July 29, 2005.

On August 1, 2005 they announced they would join XM Satellite Radio beginning September 12, 2005.

On December 20, 2006 they also began airing on 92.3 FREE FM, New York, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
