Personal: Born Billy Purser in Memphis, Tennessee in July, 1941
Radio: Burbank became an institution at WLW-AM/Cincinnati where he has worked from 1981 until December 21, 2007 when he retired.
He began at WMPS/Memphis in the mid-1960s and worked as "Johnny Appollo"
In 1968, he moved to WAKY/Louisville and began to broadcast as Gary Burbank. He worked there until 1973 then took a programming job at WNOE/New Orleans.
Burbank also did stints at CKLW in Detroit/Windsor and then WHAS-AM/Louisville.
Claim to Fame: Burbank is well-known for several radio characters including: Earl Pitts, Gilbert Gnarley, Eunice and Bernice, and the Right Reverend Deuteronomy Skaggs.
Burbank's Earl Pitts character was probably his most famous, which he has syndicated nationally to hundreds of stations.
Awards: Burbank won a Marconi Award as "Large Market Personality of the Year" in 1990 and 1991
