Rock Radio Scrapbook

DJs, Disc-Jockeys, Radio personalities - whatever you want to call them - could be considered some of the biggest proponents of modern day philosophy.

Many famous "Top 40" DJs from the past had a familiar "sign off" phrase that they used everyday. I think many felt it gave some closure to their Radio show.

I'm not sure how prevalent it is in Radio today but, as to why use them at all, there were several reasons. A familiar sign-off phrase was a way a DJ could tell the listener a little about himself, the kind of person he or she was, how he felt about life or his attitude on how to live.

I recently visited The Rock Radio Scrapbook website which features a full page of famous DJ sign-offs. I thought I would share with you some of my favorites I saw there:

NORMAN B. (CKFH, CHOW, CKBB, FM 108):
"Do what you want, dig what you do, 'cause that's what life is all about."

DON BERNS (WKBW, WTAE, KLIF, KFMB, CFNY, CIDC):
"Remember, whereever you are and whatever you're doing, it's only the beginning."

JERRY BLAVAT (WCAM, WFIL, WIBG, WCAU-FM, WOGR, WSSJ)
"Keep on rockin', because in this world you really rock ONCE!

FRANKIE CROCKER (WMCA, WINS and others)
"May you live to be a hundred, and me a hundred minus a day, so I'll never know good people like you have passed away. Peace, love, truth and soul."

TOM DONAHUE (KYA, KSAN, KPPC)
"And that's the way it was ... and that's the way it is ... and it's always changing ... and it is always the same."

CASEY KASEM (KRLA)
"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars. And until you get the one you want, I hope you'll stay with the station of the stars, KRLA."

STEVE LUNDY (WLS, KILT, KROQ, KRTH, KFRC)
"Don't forget to smell the roses - cause we're only here for a short visit."

There are so many more to see at The Rock Radio Scrapbook website. I suggest you visit soon.
