Rick Dees - A Personal Memory - His Time At WHBQ, Memphis

By , About.com Guide

I remember the first time I heard Rick Dees. It was 1979 when he was still on fire at WHBQ, Memphis, Tennessee.

I was on my way to Mississippi to take a new Radio job myself and while passing through Memphis, I tuned into WHBQ and heard one of the most remarkable radio shows ever.

It was "tight" and kept moving forward with a morning rythm that was unmistakeably hip. Dees sounded like he was having such a great time between his characters, his newsman, Terrence McKeever, and the whole cast in a presentation I think was probably one of the best produced morning programs of its time.

Rick Dees is a brilliant performer and set the standard for so many other Radio personalities along side him, and behind him.
