WRIF's "Doc of Rock" Doug Podell was honored recently with the Heineken Ampt/ASCAP Recognition Award for "his outstanding contributions to the local Detroit music scene."

The presentation took place during the ASCAP Presents: Heineken Ampt Music Series and Festival in Detroit, a two-day event featuring panel discussions, celebrity interviews, and live music performances by some of the best acts from the burgeoning downtown rock scene.

WRIF began as WXYZ on January 1, 1948 and became WRIF on February 14, 1971 and has been playing Rock in one form or another every since. Today, it's known as "Detroit's Home of Rock and Roll".

Doug Podell does the midday program on WRIF and also serves as the station's Program Director. He's a native of Detoit.
