Dateline: 10/18/03

By Corey Deitz, About.com

MercuryNews.com is reporting the F.C.C. stormed the home of Jim and Charlotte Hatch and closed down their Pirate Radio station, "Radio Liberation".

Radio Liberation is known for broadcasting alternative policitcal views and opinions.

The Hatches were first warned in July, 2003 that they were operating an illegal Radio station. At the time, the F.C.C. came to their home to inspect their equipment but were turned away.  Agents at that time warned the couple they faced fines upwards to $17,000.

Then on Wednesday, October 15, agents - working in conjunction with federal marshalls -  returned to the site of the Pirate station with a warrant and confiscated the station's equipment including computers, cd players, turntables, a mixer, and an antenna.

No arrests were made at the time. An attorney for the Hatches remarked the couple had applied to the F.C.C. for a license in 2000 and "had never been officially told it had been denied," according to MercuryNews.com.
