Clear Channel Commits To RDS In Top 50 Markets

New technology answers age-old question Who is that band or artist playing?"

By Corey Deitz, About.com

Clear Channel Radio announced today that it will work with Audemat-Aztec to install dynamic RDS generators across the country. The technology will enable Clear Channel Radio to enhance its current radio broadcasts by scrolling the artist name and title playing on the air, station call letters, traffic information and other locally focused messages for immediate display on listeners’ radios.

Clear Channel Radio has committed to the largest roll out of RDS across the United States by launching the technology on 192 of its FM stations in the top fifty U.S. markets by the end of November.

“Clear Channel Radio’s financial and manpower commitment to this initiative is strong evidence of the company’s ongoing effort to provide more, better options for our listeners,” said John Hogan, Chief Executive Officer, Clear Channel Radio.

Jeff Littlejohn, Clear Channels' Senior Vice President of Engineering said, “We’re excited to be the first company to introduce this innovative twist to an existing technology. The dynamic RDS technology gives Clear Channel Radio the edge in providing radio listeners with even more information about the station, the songs on the air and other important messages.”
