Air America Radio Network To Provide Liberal Point Of View

Dateline: 03/29/04

By Corey Deitz, About.com

This Wednesday, March 31, Air America Radio debuts. Although it is calling itself “a progressive talk radio network”, everyone else is just calling it the first radio network for liberals (not counting National Public Radio or stations operated by the Pacifica Foundation which have both had decidedly liberal leanings for years.)

Comedian, and best selling author Al Franken will host a weekday show on the network called “The O’Franken Factor,” - a jab at Bill O'Reilly at Fox News who also hosts his own radio show.

Air America Radio has signed actress and comedienne Janeane Garofalo, hip hop icon Chuck D, radio personality Randi Rhodes, and political humorist Sam Seder to join Franken at the network.

Environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., “The Daily Show” co-creator Lizz Winstead, and business-of-the-media analyst on the public radio program “Marketplace” Martin Kaplan will also join the network.

Air America Radio will debut on the following stations:

New York - WLIB 1190AM
Los Angeles - KBLA 1580
Chicago - WNTD 950 AM
Portland, OR - KPOJ 620 AM
Inland Empire, CA - KCAA 1050 AM
XM Satellite Radio - Channel 167
