Working In Radio - Knowing The Time Without Hearing It Announced

By Corey Deitz, About.com

Radio people can usually tell what time it is - without hearing it announced - especially if they are listening to their own station. Generally, each hour is divided into sections according to a "format clock". On the clock, events happen at specific times: newer songs are played at certain points, older songs have certain positions, commercials run at specific points, etc. By hearing these elements, a DJ can usually tell what point in the hour it is.
