By November 1, 2012

Follow me on:

Airtime 2.2 has been released. This open source radio software from Sourcefabric is a free, web-based application for Debian or Linux that let's radio stations and others run radio stations online or on-air. (Screenshot: Sourcefabric.org)

This release of the automation software offers four live assist modes. This allows deejays to rebroadcast incoming streams, configure remote live input streams from DJ programs like Mixx or IDJC, use smartphone applications, or schedule streams via calendar.

Airtime 2.2 has a new Smart Playlist feature which allows users to enter parameters for a playlist. Then, the feature populates the log for playback.

The program is touting 500 bug fixes and improvements and new features. Earlier this year Airtime won a Guardian Award for Digital Innovation. The judges noted Airtime's "...innovative use of free technology was bringing together different radio and code communities to create a tool for independent media all over the world," according to Sourcefabric. That sounds like a pretty good endorsement.
