WPHT/Philadelphia - The Big Talker 1210 AM - has announced a major shakeup in its programming day. The syndicated Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck officially lose their place in the station's lineup as of January 3rd. (Graphic: CBS Radio)
1210 AM is importing Chris Stigall from a news-talk station in Kansas City (KCMO-AM) to do mornings from 5:30 - 9:00 a.m. Michael Smerconish is leaving mornings to focus on his own syndicated show but will be heard later in the day.
Dom Giordano will be on from 9:00 a.m. - 12 Noon followed by Rush Limbaugh, Noon until 3 p.m.
In the new 1210 AM lineup, Smerconish will be heard from heard 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. with the first hour devoted to the local Philadelphia listeners. This will be effective January 17, 2011.
In a news release, CBS Radio management said Stigall was "a bona fide star" and were "thrilled" Smerconish would "remain an important voice on the station."

Stigall is able to mix local with national, and he’s absolutely hilarious while doing it. Honestly living in KC I enjoyed his show much more than Rush. If you don’t like him, please send him back soon!

You have just lost two very reliable listeners. My husband and I tune into Glenn every morning. It sounds to me like someone got to you.
Chris Stigall was a wacky FM DJ on 101 the Fox and then 97.3 the Planet both in Kansas City. He started his career in AM talk on Hot Talk 1510 KCTE in Kansas City. The station had envisioned a Letterman type show on the radio. Union Broadcasting fired Scott Vorhees(now in Omaha) and brought on Stigall.
Stigall quickly changed the agenda and turned the show into a radical right wing talker. With him being on a small station he got away with it for a while until the folks at Union Broadcasting actually started listening and paying attention. Once they realized that his show had taken a different road than what they envisioned they fired him.
He then went to work for Sam Graves for a year and then popped back up in KC radio on 710 KCMO. He has a great voice and nice presentation but he is the world’s largest hypocrite and if you don’t agree with what he is saying he will just hang up on you or talk louder. He is just a Glen Beck wannabe with a Letterman type delivery. He interned on the David Letterman show in college.
He is very Religious and lets it control his thoughts at times. He tries to bring Religion to Government and Politics which is a big turn off to most. In 2009 he hosted the tax day protests at Liberty Memorial in KC and made his whole speech about God. People like him don’t realize that God should stay out of Politics and Government. That is what our Founders envisioned.
He will be entertaining but don’t take him seriously. He is just another radical nutcase that doesn’t inform himself on all sides of the issues. If you like Glen Beck, Sarah Palin, etc. you will enjoy him. If you don’t you will be in hell.

Okay, the “he’s very religious” comment is just absurd. If you think of Rush Limbaugh as “very religious”, then you’ll probably think that about Stigall. I tend to be a pretty non-religious, libertarian-leaning conservative and I loved his show. If I had to pick a topic that he focuses on more than any, it would probably be fiscally conservative principles. If he were some extreme religious right guy I would have tuned out.
My advice to Philly listeners would be this: Just tune in and give it a try. However much you love Beck or whomever, remember that there was a time earlier in Beck’s career when somebody else got bumped for his new, emerging show. And I’m sure that whomever they replaced had loyal fans who swore they wouldn’t ever listen again. Time marches on, new people come on the scene. Stigall is one that is worth giving a chance.
If one examines this move by this CBS owned station, one concludes that these changes are in response to the beatch slapping the left-tards took in the last election with CBS being the head cheerleader right back to Dan I’D Rather Not Live in the Truth.
A private profit oriented entity has a responsibility to its employees, advertisers, shareholders to maximize profit. With this move they are effectively telling them to too bad, our politics are more important and it will not take long until their ratings go the way of Air Head America.

Michael broke the news this morning (the part which relates to him) and I searched the web for the details on 1210’s changes.
While this doesn’t seem to be a great ratings move, I admire 1210 for their loyalty to Michael. He’s level-headed and very likable. All the right-wing listeners started hating him when he voted for Obama and they don’t appreciate his middle-of-the-road approach. They don’t understand that he’s not moderate just to “be a moderate,” he actually sees different issues in different ways… and most of them right-leaning. But politics has become so polarized that the right has turned on him. Neither “side” can see the other’s point of view. Michael puts himself beyond all that… I find him quite refreshing. I will miss hearing him in the morning.
I can barely stand to listen to Beck and Hannity anymore. Beck is so paranoid and obsessed with God, and Hannity just shouts down ever caller who disagrees with him. These two will surely find a place in Philly talk radio. They have 990 written all over them.

Dropping Beck wasn’t too smart. Is Philly a liberal town or something? I know that some democrats want to silence him, but why would a station fold like that unless it’s about cost of programming? I always listened to The Big Talker when I was within range of it but out of range for Harrisburg. I would patronize the local businesses who advertised there. WPHT has left a sour taste in the mouths of all those who have held it in such high esteem all these years as a CBS station that had the courage to program for profit by going against its’ parent company’s liberal politics. Either orders have come down from on high or a new progam director is flexing his/her muscles. Either way the majority of WPHT listeners will abandon the station (and hopefully its’ sponsors) in droves. WPHT is a powerful station but these changes will create a vacuum that another station will eventually fill with true conservative programming.

My car & office radios are on 1210 full time until Sunday, 1/2. Now I just need to find the new stations for Sean and Glenn in the DelVal region and switch.
I don’t understand the logic to dropping the #2 and #3 radio talk shows. I would imagine that it is mainly a money issue in the stations mind but then gain #2 and #3 can get you higher advertising rates.

While it is true that the station management leans left, that has nothing to do with it. A local morning show and midday show gives that station more commercial airtime to sell from 6AM-noon. Syndicated shows have very little room for local advertising, severely limiting the station’s ability to make a living. They had only a tiny bit of time to sell 6 AM-6 PM. Now they will have more. I will miss the shows, but there is nothing nefarious at work.

Thank God for my Sirius and internet radio!!! I’m a major Beck fan and I am not ashamed to say that I have been Hannitized, also. A pox on PC 1210 with the Obama-loving,No Labels, no principled Smerconish! Hate him and now I hate 1210. Hope they go under from this stupid decision.
You must be losing your corporate minds. Every radio I have at home and in the cars is tuned to 1210. How can you cancel the #2 (Hannity) and #3 (Glenn Beck) talk hosts in the country for a Kansas CIty Import in Beck’s slot and repositioning Michael Smerconish to Hannity’s slot? I know both Michael Smerconish and Sean Hannity personally, and to paraphrase from a VP debate years ago, “I know Sean Hannity, and Michael, you are not Sean Hannity.”

As Hannity often says, “Let not your hearts be troubled.” Another station WILL pick up Beck and Hannity; it’s inevitable. They’re huge personalities! I’ve seen the same thing happen in other markets. Often Beck, Rush, Hannity (and Savage, Boortz, Levin, etc.) are on two or more different stations, but the loyal listeners are willing to change stations to listen. Just like TV, you don’t find all your favorite shows on one channel. So what if 1210 goes down the tubes? Their loss will be another station’s gain. Maybe this is a golden opportunity for some struggling FM station to make a name for itself!
Remember, too, that your input can go a long way. Want 990 (or someone else) to air your favorite shows? Let ‘em know…in big numbers!

I have erased your station from my preset car radio stattions as of this morning. What a disgrace.
I’m curious to see how it works out for 1210. I only listen to them for the Phillies games and Sid Mark’s Frank Sinatra shows, anyway. Hannity is too superficial in his discussion of current events, and I’ve always thought Glenn Beck is an idiot (remember when he was still asking, back in 2006 to 2008, “Can’t we all just get along?”, ignoring the fundamental philosophical differences between the American Left and our founding principles). I listen to 990 WNTP, which carries Bill Bennett, Dennis Prager and Michael Medved. There is much better content in those three shows, than in Hannity, Limbaugh and Beck.
990 has made a similar move, however, dropping Mark Levine’s show from 6PM to 9PM for a local financial analysis show.
I too am dismayed at the new line-up. I stopped listening to the MS and Greg show (TC seemed good) when he for some reason endorsed the current president after listening to his speech at the Constitution Center. I will never understand why he did so. I guess he was sucked up into the rage at the time which bothered me since he should have been politically savvy enough to see through the fog.
I will give Chris a try, but I am dismayed at the loss of Glenn and Hannity. I too will likely switch to 990 for the afternoon drive home.

I quit listening to smirconish a couple years ago. All I listen to on 1210 is Beck and Hannity – every day religiously. Guess I’ll be listening to country music instead – 1210 is now banned in my car. CBS – you’re all idiots.

My wife and i have 1210 on from 9am untio 6pm. That will change now.. We will no longer be tuned to 1210. We will be tuned to 990 from 6am until 9am and then switch to 1450am… Someone really dropped the ball on this move…

I used to listen to Michael on my way home from work, than on my way to work. I still listened as he started his swing from center, but stopped listening to him when he actually veered left.

Beck is bat-guano crazy and Hannity is a tool. Good riddance to bad rubbish and good for 1210 for dropping them both. (Rush still pollutes the local airwaves, but two outta three ain’t bad.) Smerconish is a middle-of-the-roader and a sharp guy; I’d much rather see him stay in mornings (this Stigall guy is terrible, and not just because he’s a carpetbagger), but good on 1210 for giving him the national push. Dom G plays in the GOP/Fox echo chamber a little too often for my taste, but he’s a decent guy with deep local roots.

If they were so good do you really think that CBS would drop them for political reasons? Delusional, brother. Why did WOR (Buckley) drop Beck in NY? Did CBS drop Beck and Hannity from all their stations? And why do you think they dropped Beck and Hannity but not Limbaugh, if it was a political decision?
Maybe CBS didn’t get high enough ratings or earn enough money carrying the same shows that are heard everywhere else and decided to create their own programming? Maybe that’s actually a bold move. As Mary wrote, maybe this is just the free market at work and not some vast left wing conspiracy.
Maybe you should listen to the new line-up before you condemn what the station has done. Maybe not doing the same thing as 400 other radio stations isn’t such a bad thing. After you’ve actually tried it and earned the right to criticize the changes you have plenty of places to find Beck and Hannity.

I love Michael Smerconish because he is moderate, maybe a more liberal view on some things and a more conservative view on other things. He is always open to different opinions. He isn’t afraid to be his own thinker. Thank God he is not a DITTO HEAD. Michael keeps local news first. He will find his audience, this country is full of people who want to a moderate voice on the radio.

Well it’s a shame 1210 AM is making this huge mistake! I listened to the internet version of WPHT,just to hear Glenn Beck because the WABE AM in Allentown, PA. is not the most powerful station. Now they will get my faithful attention. After all, Glenn is the only non-political voice, encouraging Americans to seek to change their own lives, to change America. Despite all of the phony criticism he is the voice of reason, who preaches PEACEFUL action above all. I miss WWDB FM which was superb in the old days, and the station that mad me fall in love with talk radio as a junior high kid.
At least we still have Rush. When he is gone the audiance for 1210 will be nill.

Wow! What a shame…the Big Talker blew it big time by giving the boot to Glen and Sean. For whatever reason this decision was made to drop these two conservative voices, it was wrong. The Big Talker did a major disservice to the conservative audience in the Delaware Valley. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn soon that Rush will get the axe next. I enjoyed listening to Glenn Beck. I believe Beck brings to the surface the true state of our nation and people in the background that have so much power and influence. I enjoy Dom DiGiordano as well. I will not be listening to 1210 as often though. May I recommend Dennis Prager, 12 noon, NEWS TALK WNTP AM 99… he is conservative (although this does compete with Rush Limbaugh), followed by Michael Medved, also conservative. Michael Smerconnish has evolved over the years… many of his opinions are left of center to entirely left. Although I do not agree with him, he presents his thoughts intelligently, and like Michael Medved and Dennis Prager, gives time for opposing opinions as long as his callers do not make personal attacks.

My husband and are are both removing 1210 from our presets (we listened from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily). I still love Rush, but will find another station to which to give my ratings.
Does anyone know how to listen to Glenn Beck while driving in the morning without a laptop?
I will never listen to 1210 again except for baseball. I stopped listening to that whacked out Smerconish about two years ago. The only real attraction was Beck anyway. Hey Big Talker, can you spell “AIR AMERICA”. Local content and they bring in some guy from Kansas City!!!!

You have taken away the two of the most important reasons I tuned in to your ststion. You have lost me and many others when you dropped Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity.
Looks like management is pursuing a new “small talker” agenda! Changed the preset in the car and dial in the house to 790 AM.

However, I shall listen just ONE more time so that I can make a list of the advertised sponsors. Then I intend to contact them: “no business for you,” “poor ratings are costing you,” and “pressure the station.”

Sorry to hear Glenn Beck is gone. 1210 has lost a daily listner. Smirconish we could do without. Happy to see him gone in the morning. I am looking for a new station.
I can understand Hannity, but why on earth would you take away Glenn? Easily my most favorite of the bunch, great job if you’re trying to lose listeners. Grow some balls.

Whose idiotic idea was it to make those changes. The only reason I listen to 1210, other than the Phillies, was to listen to Hannity in the afternoon and I liked Giordano following him. I have not listened to Giordano since he has made his time slot move. I give 1210 6 months before they fold due to lack of sponsors. The only time you may have listeners is when Phillies play. Well it was nice tuning in to 1210 when you had interesting shows on.
this was a conservative radio station. Who cares what a liberal like Michael Smerkonish says. I guess they do not need an audience because I am another person who will never listen again.
This was a bad idea. I have little reson to listen to people who have little insight into what is running my future. Smerconish is a LAWYER as are Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer, Waxman, and all the others including the Senator from PA who sold out all the people who voted him into office as a Republican. Yes I am talking about Senator spector who’s son is a trial lawyer making a fortune on malpractice law suits while his father takes all the republican votes and then throws them in the trash bin by becoming a follower of the Lawyer run democratic party, which refuesed to address malpractice frivolous law suits. Why do you suspect that I would want to listen to some local yokel who is a part of the legal system instead of a person like HANNITY who is taking on corruption and gives us the researched facts and Beck who gives us the researced connections which are involved in hoodwinking Americans with their clandestine attachments to people like George Soros. I will now listen to 990 AM to get the real news on these things. As I remember it. Dr. Laura was also removed from 1210 and One has to wonder why people of conviction and old time values are always replaced with unknowns.
Well- I was a loyal listner but the change has really dismayed me. At least Rush is still part of the broadcast!

What a mistake in dropping national figures like Beck and Hannity. I have been a Dom G fan for many years and will miss him at night. The station loses my attention as I turn to 790 and 990.
Radio without Beck and Hannity on 1210 is lame, thank god for 990. I only tune in for Rush. Sorry Dom, you work for morons.
While I love Dom Giordano, I’m so upset at you dropping Hannity and Beck. They are true consertive voices. At 3 PM I won’t be listening to 1210. I will lsten to Dom but never Michael. I’ll find Hannity where ever he will be broadasting.
Nothing personal against Dom Giordano, whom I’ve always liked and respected, but listening to 1210 is basically over for me now that they got rid of Glenn Beck, the ultimate seeker of truth. Hannity is a good guy also, but I’m not crazy about his style. I haven’t been able to stomach Smerconish in years. Could a man be more full of himself?
I’m very grateful that I can stream Beck’s morning show on my internet radio. The Big Talker can go down the road of net neutrality if it wants to, but I’m not going down with it. Losers!

Taking Beck and Hannity off your station is a big mistake. Beck is one of the few who knows what is going on. What you have replaced them with is very boring. Do not listen anymore, I want to be informed and what you have on now is a waste of my Time. No longer a listener!
I cannot believe they dropped Sean Hannity from the Big Talker. He was the only reason I listened to the station. I guess the way he spoke the truth was too frightening for most people. Sorry he is gone. I will be listening to the other station for Sean.
You replaced Glenn Beck with Dom Giordano…..although, he seems like a nice guy, he is a sorry substitute for Glenn Beck…..I haven’t listened to your station since the change….I now listen to NJ 101.5….at least it’s entertaining and informative!! I thought you people were smarter than that….I also like Hannity but Beck was my favorite…..who got to you and gave you the Kool Aid to drink? Please bring Beck back!
