Follow me on:

My perception is that as Internet Radio has evolved and become more ubiquitous, Pirate Radio - the illegal broadcasts by hobbyists and radio devotees on AM/FM frequencies they are not licensed to be on - has decreased. Of course, this is only anecdotal. Yet, we seem to hear less about these infractions...until now.

"Listeners of two South Florida radio stations got a surprise when their Christian and classical music was interrupted with rap and profane language," according to wftv.com.

"Trap Radio" is no more. That's what Mikhaul Rhodd was calling his pirate radio station which he created by rigging up some equipment including a laptop, mixer, and large antenna. Too bad for him it interfered with a licensed Christian and classical-formatted station, annoying people and prompting complaints.

Rhodd has been charged with unauthorized transmission.
