HD Radio to Help in Emergency Alert Services
According to iBiquity: "The companies seek to develop a combined technology platform that will enable broadcasters to offer emergency information to the general public, as well as to targeted populations, such as first responders, government agencies, or individuals with special needs or in specific geographic areas. The companies will utilize a broad range of devices with embedded HD Radio technology, including digital AM/FM radios, personal media devices and cell phones, as well as personal computers and other communication channels."
HD Radio improves the sound quality of AM and FM radio stations and also allows FM stations to offer new channels within existing frequencies through digital multicasting. Currently, 2000 stations are using HD technology.

There seems to be no end to the number of gimmicky things Bob Struble can come up with as we all watch iBiquity Digital radio circling the drain on its way to the technology sewer. Bob – it’s getting old. Really!
HDRadio is crap. In uneven terrain, the reception is poor. If you listen to an HD3 stream and it blanks out … and does not recover … most radios default to the main analog. That will not go over good for the consumer who thinks their radio is broke. Come on Corry, call HDRadio what is is: crap. Just like AM stereo or the expanded band, just a waste of spectrum that will have little return on investment in tough times.
Yeah, and now iBiquity is lobbying the FCC for a power increase to force feed it to you. iBiquity digital radio has had no measurable growth for two years with no new stations converting and no new radios being produced (with exception of a few high dollar high end pieces that nobody wants). It’s a major failure that needs to just go away.
