This is usually the kind of news you would expect SIRIUS XM Radio to announce. Yet, this time it's Clear Channel Radio. In the coming months, the company will launch various artist-programmed Internet radio streams on hundreds of Clear Channel Radio's websites and digital outlets. The company is calling this venture A.P.E. Radio (Artist Programmed Radio) and already has commitments from artists like the Eagles, Christina Aguilera and Weezer.

The A.P.E. channels will allow artists to be hosts, choose the music (theirs or someone else's), create exclusive content (commentary, opinions, stories, and anecdotes) and to have creative control. Clear Channel will also share profits from these channels with the artists.

Clear Channel Radio owns 850 traditional AM/FM radio stations and respective websites and says its properties reach more than 22 million unique people each month.
