Prison Inmates Stop Eating for Radio Rights

By , About.com Guide   May 8, 2009

Follow me on:

At the Maine State Prison in Warren, Maine, the inmates are demanding radios for their cells. According to bangordailynews.com, "One striker, Jesse Baum, was quoted on The Portland Phoenix Web site as saying most states recognize the need to have a TV or radio in order 'to keep sane' in solitary confinement."

So, a hunger strike among 8 inmates enters Day 4 today as they continue to stage their protest.

Well, we've all heard stories about prison food. Are these guys really radio fans - or were they just looking for a convenient excuse for ducking out from the meatloaf?
