By , About.com Guide   December 13, 2008

Follow me on:

A Chicago radio icon, Spike O'Dell, did his last broadcast on WGN-AM 720 this past Friday morning (12/12).

O'Dell started with the station in 1987 doing afternoons and moved to mornings in 2000 after the tragic and unexpected death of Bob Collins in an airplane crash.

You can hear audio or see video of O'Dell's last broadcast at the www.wgnradio.com.

According to wgntv.com O'Dell was quoted as saying, "I've had fun. Thank you."

I interned for him last year. He is the nicest guy in Chicago radio. He was number one, and it never went to his head. I wish more people had such kindness and humility.
