Obama to Offer Weekly Radio Address Online

Saturday November 15, 2008
President Elect Barack Obama continues to offer his brand of change. For the first time, the Democratic weekly address is not just being offered via traditional radio: it will now be on YouTube.

Change.gov, Obama's transition website, says: "President-elect Obama plans to to publish these weekly updates through the Transition and then from the White House.

You can view the weekly address at Change.gov.

Presidential Radio
Although radio addresses by presidents go back as far as President Franklin Roosevelt who became known for his "fireside chats" on radio during the Great Depression years of the 1930s, the weekly addresses were begun by President Ronald Reagan in 1982. Reagan delivered 330 Saturday radio addresses and ended each one with the phrase, "Until next week, thanks for listening."

Classic Reagan Radio Gaffe
Prior to his weekly radio address on August 11 1984, Reagan uttered what is now a famous but humorous gaffe when he did not think the microphone was on. Read more and listen to it here.
